6 things you can do because democracy
You have probably heard of most of these, but I think they’re worth repeating. I present them humbly as potential alternatives to ripping your own hair out (though that might be cathartic for you! To each their own).
Here are the things, in order of intensity and time commitment:
Check to make sure that you are registered to vote at your current address. Bug your friends and family and make sure they are registered to vote.
If you are not registered to vote at your current address, make sure to update your voter registration by your state’s deadline. In Pennsylvania, that’s October 19.
Make a plan for how you’re going to vote. If you are low-risk for COVID, consider voting in person. If you plan to vote by mail, make sure you request and return your ballot by the deadline. In Pennsylvania, that’s October 27th.
If you have some extra money, consider donating to Senate candidates in key races. I’m supporting Sarah Gideon in Maine, and Jaime Harrison in South Carolina.
If you have some extra time, consider signing up to do phone or text banking. You can phone bank for Biden, but you can also make a huge difference by volunteering for local and state races.
If you are low risk for COVID, consider signing up to be a poll worker on election day.
I’m extremely new to this, so please feel free to comment with your own suggestions as well!
